This seminar marked the closure of MAVP events for the year 2019 that brought another interesting cases and knowledge added session between the experts in MAVP and the keen participants.
The seminar was held in the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN) auditorium in Cheras on 12th December (Thursday). The half a day seminar was officiated with a welcoming remarks by the Director General of PERHILITAN himself, YBhg, Dato’ Abdul Kadir Abu Hashim. Dato’ Abdul Kadir reminisced the great collaboration between MAVP and PERHILITAN following the signing of MOU 3 years ago. In 2019 alone, there were several MAVP occasions co-organised by the Department including a seminar in Paya Indah Wetland as well as assisting in solving the issues faced by the Department such as the famous case of Awang Besul, the tiger that had died due to Canine Distemper.
The Director General ended his speech by expressing his hope to have a more of fruitful collaboration in the future particularly in breeding and conservation program for wildlife in Malaysia.
The event was continued by presentation of cases by five speakers sharing a wide range of animal species and aspects from wildlife (caracal, tiger and deer) to livestock like goats and rabbit. The topics shared include a case of rhodococcosis in caracal, bacterial pneumonia and burkholderiosis in a goat, a knowledge sharing on the pulmonary vascular changes observed in autolysed rabbit, important input on semen collection and evaluation in conserving our domestic deer as well as experience sharing in treating parvovirus infection in wild carnivore.
The seminar was more like a discussion rather than a merely presentation of cases. Thus has made the seminar more interesting and lively. We hope to see more participation from members and non-members be it pathologists or practitioners out there, to share your findings and experiences that could benefit by many during the seminars.
See you guys again in more exciting events in the year 2020!
